CMS is once again participating in our annual Summer Reading Program. Studies have shown that reading during the summer helps students maintain or improve their reading skills, which is even more important as we recover from pandemic learning. This year our school is purchasing a free summer reading book for each incoming 6-8 grader that they can keep! For information and FAQs about the program, click here. For the book list (including intro video), click here. All students will be participating in reading circles based on their summer reading books once we return in the fall. For questions, please email our librarian Ms. Sofferman at rebecca.sofferman@colchestersd.org.
There are several ways to access books for summer reading this year:
Your student will be provided the opportunity in class to fill out a form before April 29, indicating which free book they would like. The books will be distributed to students at school in June.
All the books are available in either eBook or audiobook format from our library collection. Instructions for accessing the collection via Sora can be found here.
The Burnham Library and the CMS Library will have extra copies of the books on the summer reading list in case your student loses or doesn’t like their book.
